about

The chorus and title of this song came to James in a dream when he was in hospital after a life-saving operation. It's a joyfully exuberant tirade against the system - how wonderful it is to be alive! But once the anaesthetic wears off, here we are in a world where the corporate kings are calling the shots, how do we get back to something that feels more like home?

lyrics

Stole my money and ran away
To the Cayman Islands
Know I'll never find them
Corporate kings get political asylum
And I've noticed that I couldn't care less
What happened today
Yeah the future's on its way
Now take me home
Nah nah nah nah nah
Oh take me home
Seems to me you want it your own way
The bigger the better the brighter it's okay

I know you want to chop it all down
Suck it all up and then frack underground
Pop my pill, I’m walking a tightrope
Take that knife away from my throat
It happened today
Yeah the future's on its way now take me home
Nah nah nah nah nah
Oh take me home
Yeah take me home
When will you come take my hand in the sunshine
I’ll be your guide till the end of this dark time
Jumped a train to get away
From the forest fires
They’re getting higher and higher
I called them out and they called me a liar
Tried to claim my social credit
Don’t misbehave or you won't get it
Forced to lie to the best of my ability
Soon ended up in a criminal facility
No nobody’s going to come and bail you out
When your house is underwater and you’re screaming
You’re shouting
It happened today
Yeah the future's on its way
Now take me home
Nah nah nah nah nah
Oh take me home
No no no no no no
It’s all happening today
